Astigmatism is a fairly common condition that occurs when light that enters the eyes isn't focusing evenly, this can lead to blurred vision and an inability to focus. Cataracts are one of the most common eye conditions. They are usually brought on by old age and cause a white cloudy covering over the eye that affects eyesight. Double vision or Diplopia can be the result of complications caused by a range of things including a recent stroke, cataracts or even a neurological problem. This should be attended to by a doctor as soon as it becomes apparent that there is an issue. Another serious affliction is Macular Degeneration; this can cause partial blindness and commonly affects older people.
So if you need some more information on eye conditions get in touch with the professionals at Eyesite for detailed advice regarding any eye problems you might have.
The health of the eye can be compromised by a number of eye diseases and it requires the skill of a trained optometrist or an ophthalmologist to assist in diagnosing problems with eyesight. Common diseases include inflammation of the eye in the form of conjunctivitis, scleritis, keratitis, iritis, corneal disease, corneal abrasions and eye ulcers. Retinal diseases include retinopathy problems and macular degeneration which can cause loss of central vision.
Some eye conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts can require eye surgery to correct, while other diseases or eye infections might need medical treatment, drugs or eye drops. Allergies can irritate eyes and conditions such as blepharitis, which is the infection of the eyelids, can cause redness and itching of the eye. Diabetes can cause serious complications for a patient’s vision and can lead to diabetic eye disease which is a leading cause of blindness.
In some cases, eye diseases can lead to loss of sight if not caught early so it is important to consult an optometry specialist or eye surgeon to seek regular eye testing and eye care support. To discover more about diseases which affect the eyes, Eyesite are your trusted resource.
An eye operation can range from cataract removal treatments and Lasek surgery to cornea transplants and vision correction. Eye injuries and problems that are more common in old age, such as macular degeneration and glaucoma, can also result in eye operations. Laser eye surgery and refractive surgery, performed to reduce the need for contact lenses, come under the remit of eye operations too.
Anyone with sight problems can choose to visit an eye specialist and find out if they need to have an operation to enhance their eyesight and see the world more clearly. There are many types of eye operation, which can only be carried out by specialist ophthalmologists who are trained in carrying out reconstruction, augmentation and surgical procedures that relate to improving visual acuity.
During operations of the eye the surgeon will anaesthetise the patient and numb the muscles surrounding the eye to immobilise the area completely. This allows the eye doctor to perform surgeries quickly, reduce trauma and speed up recovery times. If you think you may need an eye operation get in touch with Eyesite today. We can evaluate eye disorders, discuss your eye surgery options with you and suggest potential eye treatments.
Looking after your eyes is vitally important, taking a few simple steps can reduce damage later in life and save you from a world of complications. However, eye care doesn't have to be complicated as there are a few easy things you can do to keep your vision perfect and avoid future issues with your sight.
Firstly, remember to get regular eye checks as this will ensure that you get the correct medical assistance should you suffer any complications with your vision. Your diet is also vital for your eyesight; eating lots of fruits and nuts can reduce the risk of sight loss caused by diabetes or high blood pressure.
You should also always ensure that your eyes are properly protected from the sun. Never look directly at the sun even during an event such as an eclipse as this can cause irreversible damage. Hats and sunglasses will provide sufficient protection on particularly bright days; look for the CE and BS EN mark on any sunglasses you buy to make sure they're good quality. So if you'd like to find out more regarding eye care why not call Eyesite today for more information?
The first thing to do when you are considering laser eye surgery is to speak to an ophthalmologist who can advise on the best cause of action. It may be that you are better suited to wearing glasses to correct your vision. If a decision is made to use laser eye surgery to correct refractive eyesight errors then it will be carried out by an ophthalmologist.
The most common procedure is LASIK, standing for Laser Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis - this involves a knife called a microkeratome slitting into the cornea and opening the flap to reveal the stroma of the iris. The eye is then sculpted by the laser before the patient makes a swift recovery.
The second technique is known as LASEK and involves a technique which uses electro-magnetic pulses from a computer controlled excimer laser which dissolves part of the stroma and sculpts the cornea. The refractive problem is corrected in the eyeball and the flap is replaced. LASIK is a product of years of finding the best procedures from eye surgery such as Radial Keratotmeny and Photorefractive Keratectomy. To find out more about LASIK and LASEK contact Eyesite today!
