PTK What Is PTK? Phototherapeutic keratectomy (PTK) is an effective treatment for various cornea disorders. It utilises the same laser (the 'Excimer' laser) that is used to treat short sight. In PTK the laser beam is applied directly to the surface of the cornea. The amount of laser applied is carefully calculated to remove only the surface layer (called the 'epithelium') and a thin layer ranging from 5-50 microns underneath.. PTK is the treatment of choice for conditions such as cornea erosion, cornea scars e.g. due to adenovirus conjunctivitis and cornea dystrophies e.g. granular dystrophy. |
