Replacement lens implants are a very effective and well established treatment for reading and distance glasses.
Eyesite surgeon Simon Levy has performed thousands of replacement lens implant procedures. Surgery is at centres of excellence – the Wellington Hospital, St. John’s Wood, London and Spire Hospital, Bushey, London with superb equipment and all the facilities of elite private hospitals. You will see him at your initial consultation and follow-ups. Eyesite’s fee includes whatever type of customised lens implant is best for you, no matter how sophisticated.
You may come across other names for this procedure – ‘clear lens extraction’, ‘refractive lens exchange’ or ‘lensectomy’.
The natural lens of the eye and replaced by an artificial lens implant. The new lens is about the same size as a contact lens and is made of plastic. The procedure is similar to cataract surgery and may be performed under local or general (sleeping) anaesthetic.
Replacement lens implants correct any degree of short or long sight or astigmatism no matter how severe as well as reading glasses dependence. They work well for people older than about fifty whose prescriptions are too strong for laser or who require freedom from reading glasses. Reading glasses dependence is treated with high-tech ‘multifocal’ lens implants. The correction is permanent and the new lens is normally invisible inside the eye.
